Ingredients

  • 2 ounces cold
  • 2 ounces
  • ½ ounce fresh juice
  • ¾ ounce House Syrup
  • Garnish: 1 wheel and 1 piece of candied on a skewer

Method

Pour the seltzer into a Collins glass. Short shake the remaining ingredients with ice for about 5 seconds, then strain into the glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes and garnish with the lime wheel and candied ginger.

History

Invented in 1941 as a joint marketing effort between a struggling ginger beer brand and Smirnoff vodka, which was still a novelty spirit in the U.S. at the time — the copper mug became part of the drink's branding from the start.
