Method

Shake all the ingredients with ice. Double strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a few grates of nutmeg.

History

A twentieth-century evolution of the earlier gin-based Alexander cocktail, said to have gained popularity after being served at the 1922 wedding reception of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks — brandy replacing gin as the base.
